"First of all, it is common sense to show up for a job on time, I have always been taught to do so. However, saying it and actually having to do it are totally different! Despite the temptation to sleep a little longer, I woke up every morning and made it before time. Secondly, though there was time to talk over the lunch break and during other time of the day, I realized that a job does not always have a social atmosphere (very different from campus life). Even though I'm surrounded with people that I spend all my time with, the sense of responsibility and timelines kept me on my toes. At the end of the Internship; I had a list of things that I had never done before and now the confidence level was so high that I can take up any job in a professionally run organisation
"The first few days of my experience at Legal Aid Trust were hectic and sweat filled as I tried to acclimate my self to the speed and intricacies of the 9 to 9 work day. Once I got into a routine and learned the jargon of the office I quickly began to enjoy my work day. The experiences that I have had this holiday season will be invaluable. Experiencing full work days and all their bumps and turns is something the classroom can never replicate with lectures and exams. The hands on, often pressure filled, work that I experienced will be a great advantage to me in my next work setting. Other than a monotonous task every now and then (which is to be expected as an intern) I have only praise for my experience this holiday. It is impossible to understand the value of an internship until after you have done it. Going into this saw very little necessity in the internship requirement, but now that I have completed it I can't imagine showing up to an interview or job with out the experiences I have had during the internship. The people at the office were very kind. They never discriminated me to be an intern or understudy and involved me in all meetings and activities, which gives you a feeling of being an advocate already"
"As I go into the "real world" having this internship experience at Legal Aid Trust was good for me to start out as a professional. I learned responsibilities of working: being on time, dressing professionally, working hard, and having supervisors ect is all part of having a job. I am aware that I will be starting my career at the bottom of any company that I work for only to work myself up. Having an internship only gives me more of a competitive edge because I got experience from that. I was made to work in different areas of practice, made to do all jobs that an advocate is expected to do and my input and suggestions were also considered when we had discussions of cases and the way we would approach a situation. They made me feel like a professional which built my confidence."
"I think that an internship is extremely valuable to a student. Internship at Legal Aid Trust was a small taste of the real world that an Advocate faces. It helped reinforce my knowledge of responsibility, focus, drive and ambition. I learned focus. I learned drive during really long days at office. I got tired, but didn’t give up. The only way to gain experience, and move up in the working world is to be driven, focused and to have a will to never give up. People noticed my willingness to help in any department at any time. I was gaining experience which is more valuable to my future career success than any amount of money. I was only able to gain this experience because of the requirement to complete a semester internship. It was an invaluable tool to help me figure out what I want to do."
I got this opportunity to intern with Legal Aid Trust through Advocate Vidya Selvamony, fortunately she is also one of our Professors. She has been kind enough to give me this opportunity with a formal application made to her. I am a student of LLB and it is mandatory for us to intern in every break that we get during the semesters.I had interned with them for a week and I was given an opportunity to choose the vertical of my choice and voluntarily I chose to learn in detail about the Family Disputes and Consumer Disputes as the time frame was too short. The first day at the work place was quite exciting as it was all new to me and the teaching started off with the basics. Me and my few other friends were briefed on how to be dressed if one had to go for a court visit. The office is very cozy and to my surprise we were given a very important task of researching on the cases of their exixting clients. Each advocate in the office who was specialized in a a particluar vertical gave us a brief on their on going cases which further helped us understand our area of Interest. Unlike the other places,we had to work as per the office hours and got a lot of insights once all of the advocates were back to office from the courts. We too were given this opportunity to go along with them to understand at length the procedures of the court. At times I did realize that becoming an advocate was not an easy task as one hardly has a breathing time as you are on our toes to get justice for your clients. I had a lot of doubts being a fresher in Law and I am thankful to each of the team member who took their time out of the busy schedule but never let me go home with a doubt in my mind. This was a free intership that I had opted for but like its said "Knowledge is money", no compesantion would fall at par with the knowledge I have gained in those 30 days. I am extremely thankful to Mr. Sagar Dhaduti, who mentored me and to the entire organization for giving me this opportunity.
